Maine International Trade Day 2006

 

 

NN0A7624This year’s 26th Annual Maine International Trade Day was a huge success!  Nearly 300 people form the Maine business community, state economic development agencies, and foreign consulates gathered at the University of Maine in Orono on June 1st to discuss Connections 2006: Leveraging Maine’s International Infrastructure and Logistics.  During the day, there were one-on-one meetings for Maine businesses and foreign trade representatives, an overview of the evolving role of energy, trade and logistics inNN0A7603 the international Northeast, and a panel session looking at Growth in International Logistics and Opportunities for Maine Companies in the Changing World Economies.  Additionally, MITC President Richard Coyle congratulated participants on helping Maine’s exports grow by 27.5% over the past five years and export more than $2.3 billion in goods to more than 160 countries in 2005.

In the evening, participants enjoyed a bustling networking reception, the 2006 International Trade & Investment Awards ceremony, and a keynote address by Rear Admiral (Select) Brian M. Salerno, Deputy Director of Inspections & Compliance at the NN0A7789U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Department of Homeland Security.  To highlight the 26th anniversary of Maine International Trade day, a special thank you award was presented to Richard Coyle for his distinguished service as President of MITC for the past six years. Richard is stepping down as President to form his own consulting firm.
