Food & Beverage Export Seminar: Cuban Opportunities and Marketing Funds June 5, 2003, presented by the Maine International Trade Center. Recent changes affecting the U.S.-Cuba trade relationship have opened this growing market to U.S. food and beverage exporters. This seminar will identify opportunities, procedures and difficulties in exporting to Cuba. There will also be a review of the marketing monies available to food exporters through Food Export USA's "Branded" program.  This seminar, the eighth in the Citizen's Bank International Trade Education Series, will be held on June 5, 2003 from 10:00am-12:00pm at Shipyard Brewing Company in Portland.  Cost is $30.00 for members and $60.00 for non-members of the Maine International Trade Center and free to all Maine State Legislators.  For more information contact Dana Eidsness at eidsness@mitc.com or (207)541-7474.

EU:New information on implementation of EU Digital VAT The July 1, 2003 deadline for implementation of the EU Digital Value Added Tax (VAT) by the member states is rapidly approaching.  In late February, the Department of Commerce’s Office of Information Technologies and Electronic Commerce sent out a survey to U.S. Embassies in the 15 EU member states requesting an update on implementation efforts. The information collected suggests that some member states foresee significant difficulties in meeting the July 1 deadline. Development of China Trade: The US Commerce Department’s Trade Compliance Center has released, a report titled ”Development of China Trade 1995-2002.” Through this period, exports increased $177 billion, and Chinese imports and exports more than doubled. In 1999, the U.S. became China’s largest export market. The U.S. currently purchases slightly over 21 percent of China’s exports.
