The U.S. Trade and Development Agency (TDA) is offering the opportunity for U.S. shipbuilders, new and used vessel brokers, equipment suppliers, and project financiers to meet with delegates from the Namibian Fishing Industry interested in purchasing new and used midwater and bottom fishing trawlers, and navigation, fish processing, and fish-finding equipment.  One-on-one meetings will occur Thursday, October 31, 2002 at the Plimsoll Club in the New Orleans World Trade Center from 0900 - 1200.   For further information, visit the Business Briefing website at www.tda-namibian-fishing-ov.com. 

Retaliatory Duties on Certain Information Technology Agreement (ITA) Products.  The European Union (EU) announced that it may impose retaliatory tariffs on a number of U.S. products, including some IT products covered under the ITA in response to tariffs imposed earlier this year by the United States on certain steel-related imports from various trading partners including the EU. MITC December Biotech Program Dec 4th:  Warren Cook, President of JAX Research Systems of The Jackson Laboratory, will speak on The Jackson Laboratory’s recent experience in Asia & Europe.  JAX Research Systems took the unusual step of partnering with their direct competitor, Charles River Laboratories, for the purpose of expanding sales in international markets.  Mr. Cook’s talk will be followed by a presentation by Dr. Chris Barnett from the University of Ulster, who will present on “biotech Incubation in Northern Ireland.”   Rep. Europe Regional Waste-to-Energy/Renewable Energy Sources Conference Date: December 9-11, 2002. This event will focus on projects that relate to the transformation of refuse products from refineries, chemical plants, agricultural facilities and other industrial operations, into usable resources, and the use of renewable sources to provide energy to the communities of this region. The conference will cover opportunities in Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia. Business Development Trade Mission to Peru and Chile, Dec 2-6, 2002. Secretary of Commerce Donald Evans will lead a business development trade mission to Lima, Peru and Santiago, Chile for U.S. firms representing information and communication technologies, energy, services, machinery and equipment.
